Archers from the Hills placed their outstanding performances in the 18th state-level archery competition where nine of them have been selected for the national level competition. The competition which was organized by the Banbasi Kalyan Ashram at Salbari in Darjeeling saw participants from seven districts. Out of the 12 selected for the national level, 9 of them are from the Hills.Binumit Lepcha, Sangden Lepcha, Mangalmit Lepcha, Lopsang Lepcha, Wangdi Lepcha, Ripwan Lepcha, Susan Kerkatey, Sugen Lepcha and Ripson Lepcha will represent the Hills in the national archery competition which is scheduled to be held next year.The competetion was held under the chairmanship of Dr Ashok Jana where the Ashram’s all India sports chief Shakti Pad Thakur, Kamal Pagolia, Promod Nanda were present. The two day long competition was conducted by state sports chief Phul Tshering Lepcha. He on his part said that year by year the participants have been producing records by records and looking at this, he has also hoped that they will do better in the future competitions.
