Its been more than a year and there is no sign of success for the Police in the Zeena Pradhan murder case. It may be mentioned that the murder happened on November 15 last year at Pedong under Kalimpong Sub Division. 22 years old Zeena was murdered just 100 mtr away from her house on that fateful day in 4:30 in the afternoon. The Darjeeling Police administration after their failed attempt to solve the case is now thinking of handing it over to the CID. This has been said by Darjeeling Police Superintendent, Kunal Agarwal.Zeena was brutally murdered just 4 days before her interview in the Land Reform Department in place of her deceased father. The absconding culprit has not been arrested yet. Even the reason for the murder is unknown. Squash, milk can and a mobile phone was recovered from the incident spot. Zeena’s half naked body was recovered by the villagers at a Kholcha (water body) located 10 feet away from the spot. The villagers along with various NGOs raised their voices against the crime, after which the case was highlighted to the state’s chief secretary and in the Home Ministry by the Kalimpong MLA Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri. But nothing could be achieved. After the Delhi rape case which shook the nation, the individuals and organizations that with time have become mum are again raising the Zeena Pradhan murder case issue. The capability of the Police administration is being questioned. Thus, the Darjeeling Police have written a letter to the CID for handing over the case. Zeena’s family are still of a hope that case will be solved and justice will be done.“Big crimes in the country are solved by the Police, but the Police here cannot solve a day light murder case. This shows that administration’s incapability”, said Dr Chettri today. He also mentioned that many Police personals were dissatisfied with him when the state’s Home secretary had pressurized them after Dr Chettri highlighted the matter.
