Five accused in Madan Tamang murder case surrenderDarjeeling, 5 September: Five Madan Tamang murder accused ~ Aloke Kanta Mani Thulung, Dinesh Gurung, Keshab Raj Pokhrel, Puran Thami and Kismat Chhetri ~ today surrendered at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Darjeeling.
Notably, they had been granted bail by the Darjeeling sessions court.
But as the AIGL president and widow of the slain leader, Mrs Bharati Tamang went to the Supreme Court, appealing against the bail granted to the accused, the Calcutta High Court cancelled the bails granted by the lower court and asked them to be produced in court.
The accused then went to the Apex Court against the High Court’s cancellation of their bails.
But as the Apex Court upheld the ruling of the High Court they were compelled to surrender, informed the AIGL leader and a lawyer, Mr Prakash Khati.
The accused were remanded in judicial custody, Mr Khati further informed.(SNS)
