centre instigating gjmm

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, 5 September
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today claimed that the Congress and the Centre are trying to break up West Bengal by instigating the Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling.
Terming the Gorkhaland movement as a “destructive movement'’, the chief minister alleged that the Centre and the Congress are trying to split the state.
“If anybody thinks that public life will be paralysed, no food can be stored and anarchy would prevail in Darjeeling following his (read Mr Gurung’s) direction, he should remember that we also have a limit to our patience. Don’t cross the Lakshmanrekha as the situation could then  take a different turn,” she  warned.
While speaking to reporters at Writers’ Buildings, Miss Banerjee said, “The people of West Bengal would fight against this destructive movement and resist any attempt to separate Darjeeling from this state.”
Miss Banerjee severely criticised the Centre for planning to hold a bipartite meeting.
She said, “Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised me in a written letter on 30 July that the Centre will keep the state inform ed regarding any development on Darjeeling-related matters, but the Union home minister met the leaders of  the Gorkha JanMukti Morcha (GJMM) in New Delhi on the day when I was in the Darjeeling.” She said that the Centre did not take the state’s consent for holding such a meeting.
The chief minister, though, did not name GJMM leader Bimal Gurung, but attacked him indirectly by saying that he is organising a destructive movement in the Hills with the help of the Centre. She also said that the state government would not tolerate any politics for the sake of development in Darjeeling.
These political games are sponsoring hooliganism and students are falling victim as they are not allowed to take cars to reach school, she claimed. “The Congress wants West Bengal divided and the Centre is intensifying that fire by encouraging them,” she said, adding that development has been stalled in the Hills for 30 years. “We want peace in Darjeeling,” she said, adding that Gorkhaland Territorial Administration elections will be held.(SNS)
