GJM’s Satyendra Bardewa and Bikki Subba arrested from Mirik and Kalimpong

One of the GJM’s top leaders and Employees’ Association Mirik unit secretary, Satyendra Bardewa, was today arrested by the Mirik police. He has been charged on political and other cases over which investigations are ongoing.

Following the arrest, all business establishments in town downed shutters in protest. The local GJM leadership slammed the state government for arresting innocent party members to crush the statehood agitation.

GTA sabhashad Arun Ghising said the state government may be trying its best to quell the movement, but it will not be withdrawn under any circumstances.

In the meantime, the hill Trinamool Congress is set to kick off party activities soon. Hill TMC coordinator Rajen Mukhia said the party is preparing its strategy and added more than 2,000 people from rival parties will join the TMC in a meeting to be held in Kalimpong on Saturday.(EOI)

GJMM leader held for arson

Kurseong, 20 September: The Kalimpong police today arrested Mr Bikki Subba, president of the GJMM, No. 33 Samasti Committee, Kalimpong from Novelty Line area around 4.30 p.m.
It was learnt that Subba is a GJMM leader and has been arrested in the arson of a Nano vehicle on 27 August morning at 3 mile. He has booked under Section 147/148/149 435 & 427 of the IPC and Arms Act 25(i) A / 27. He will be produced in the ACJM Court Kalimpong tomorrow.
So far, a total of five people have been arrested in this case.     sns
