Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun: Following
the formation of the Lepcha Development Council, 45 Lepcha youths from
Kalimpong are to take up their posts in the civil police force from
September 23. An interview for 13 females and 32 male candidates was
conducted today at the police superintendent office, Birla House.
The interview was followed by
verification of candidates’ papers and a check on whether they had any
criminal background. Sources said the previous interview had a total of
30 candidates of whom 28 joined the civic police. There were candidates
from the Gorkha community among the 30 candidates, but only Lepchas have
been given preference this time.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had
assured the Lepcha community of providing employment facilities when she
was here on September 3 for a felicitation programme. To keep up with
the promise, the CM is making efforts to offer jobs to capable Lepcha
youths, according to sources. She has reportedly asked the district
administration for details on vacant posts.
