Kaimpong: Interviews for civil police conducted

Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun: Following the formation of the Lepcha Development Council, 45 Lepcha youths from Kalimpong are to take up their posts in the civil police force from September 23. An interview for 13 females and 32 male candidates was conducted today at the police superintendent office, Birla House.
The interview was followed by verification of candidates’ papers and a check on whether they had any criminal background. Sources said the previous interview had a total of 30 candidates of whom 28 joined the civic police. There were candidates from the Gorkha community among the 30 candidates, but only Lepchas have been given preference this time.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had assured the Lepcha community of providing employment facilities when she was here on September 3 for a felicitation programme. To keep up with the promise, the CM is making efforts to offer jobs to capable Lepcha youths, according to sources. She has reportedly asked the district administration for details on vacant posts.
