The
relay hunger strike staged by the pro-Gorkhaland All India Lepcha
Association (AILA) in Darjeeling has been joined by AILA members from
Mirik.
Six representatives from the Pokhrebong unit of the association joined the relay hunger strike in Darjeeling on Sunday.
The AILA’s relay hunger strike in demand
of Gorkhaland has emerged as a welcome and crucial support to those
leading the statehood agitation since ties with the Lepcha community had
strained somewhat after the Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association of
Kalimpong held a programme recently to felicitate the state chief
minister.(EOI)
