Jalpaiguri,3 Dec 2013: Gorkha
Territorial Administration member Binay Tamang was today released from
the Jalpaiguri Central Jail. But despite receiving bail on three
separate cases related to the Sibchu incident, he has been transferred
to the Darjeeling district jail on two other cases filed at the
Kalimpong police station.
Tamang had been arrested on August 22
for alleged involvement in the Sibchu incident on February 8, 2011.
Several police officials had been injured while three Gorkha Janamukti
Morcha activists were killed at the Sibchu area of Nagrakata in the
Dooars following a conflict between police officials and the GJM. Tamang
was accused of obstructing government work and destroying public
property, among others.
Tamang’s lawyer Swarup Mandal said the Jalpaiguri district court had granted him bail on two separate cases related to the Sibchu incident last month, while CGM court magistrate Choudhury Hefazat Karim granted him bail today on a third case. (EOIC)
