GTA chairman Pradip Pradhan today addressed a public meeting in Mirik where he asserted that the main aim of the GTA accord is overall development of the Darjeeling hills. He said the GTA has representatives chosen by the people and that they are dedicated and will work for the interest of the residents. He appealed for cooperation from the people to ensure the GTA is able to work without hindrance. Pradhan assured that the GTA would bring significant changes in the hills, which the ruling party of the state has failed to achieve.
The GTA chairman added the GTA will soon start construction of a ropeway in Kurseong including several other infrastructure development works. He said Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung is serious about the development of Kurseong. Pradhan also condemned the Opposition for claiming the GJM has begun losing its influence in the hills.(EOI)
