Construction of houses granted by the state government to 1000 Lepcha families is in progress and is likely to be completed by February. Speaking to the media persons in Mirik today ILTA president Langsong Tamsang said the traditional Lepcha houses provided by the state government for social and economic advancement of the Lepcha people are being constructed and will be completed by the end of February.
Notably, Mamata Bannerjee had distributed Rs.1 lakh each to 1000 Lepcha families for building traditional Lepcha houses, on October 23, 2013, during her visit to Kurseong. She had then said an additional 1 lakh will be given to all the 1000 beneficiaries.
Tamsang said the Lepcha Development Board is solemnly working in the direction of cultural development of Lepcha population. “It will certainly take time, but development will be witnessed,” Tamsang claimed.(EOIC)
