The
wildlife department of the state has taken the initiative of effecting
some changes across several of its divisions. In keeping with this, it
has directed the North Bengal Wildlife Department to rename the forest
and wildlife divisions of North Bengal.
NBWD sources said Wildlife Division -1 has been renamed as Darjeeling Wildlife Division as it falls under Darjeeling district. This division includes Baikanthapur forest, Mahananda and Sinchal wildlife sanctuary as well as the Singalila National Park.
Meanwhile, Wildlife Division-2 comprising Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Reserve Forest and Neora Valley National Forest in Kalimpong have been christened Gorumara Division after its famous national park.
The department has renamed Wildlife Division-3 that includes Jaldapara National Park in Alipurduar as Jaldapra Wildlife Division.
NBWD officer Tapas das said the department gave the new names after the famous sanctuaries and national parks they house. The wildlife department had sent a notice to the NBWD to change the names of its divisions in November last year. (EOIC)
