Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha chief Bimal
Gurung said the party will initiate various movements in demand of a
separate state of Gorkhaland in the hills as well as in Delhi following
the completion of the Lok Sabha election. Gurung said so while presiding
over a meeting at the Montiviet ground in Kurseong today.
He asked the people to be tolerant
towards the BJP candidate SS Ahluwalia and overlook the allegations
hurled by the oppositions considering the fact that Ahluwalia has been
called upon to serve the interest of the Gorkha community. He said the
people should vote for the BJP candidate for sake of their own demand
and help him forward the cause in parliament.
Gurung further said Sikkim chief
minister Pawan Kumar Chamling should be honoured irrespective of his
call on the Gorkhaland-issue as he belongs to the Gorkha community. He
said just as he never interferes in Sikkim’s politics so should TMC
candidate Baichung Bhutia keep away from Darjeeling’s affair.
According to the GJM chief, Bhutia is
unaware of the prevailing situation in Darjeeling. Chief minister Mamata
Banerjee selected a Sikkim resident as the party representative so that
the Gorkhaland issue cannot be addressed in parliament, noted Gurung.(EOIC)
GJMM to press for ‘Gorkhaland’ through events after polls
Kurseong, 9 April
The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) is likely to organize various programmes in Darjeeling Hills as well as in Delhi to highlight its demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland soon after the Lok Sabha elections.
GJMM chief Bimal Gurung indicated that such programmes are in the offing when he addressed an election rally at the Montiviet ground here.
Mr Gurung said that whatever the allegations and claims made by the opposition parties against the GJMM-supported BJP candidate, SS Ahluwalia, they should understand that he was “brought here” for the interests of the Gorkha community.
“People should understand that Mr Ahluwalia has been called here to safeguard our interests and motives. He is not here on his own,” he said.
Mr Gurung also heaped appreciation on Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling. “Whether he (Mr Chamling) supports Gorkhaland or not, we should respect him as he is a Gorkha chief minister, whose features are like ours. This is the reason I have never interfered in Sikkim’s politics,” he said.
“Instead of Sikkim politics, why should Mr Bhaichung concentrate on Darjeeling politics? He is not aware of issues in the Darjeeling Hills,” he said.
He was referring to Bhaichung Bhutia, the Trinamul Congress candidate for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, who hails from Sikkim.
“Instead of a candidate from Darjeeling, the Trinamul Congress and the state chief minister have chosen a candidate from Sikkim to make sure that he does not raise the Gorkhaland demand,” Mr Gurung added.Mr Mishra warned that the situation will go worse if the BJP comes to power. “BJP is not only a communal force, but they will also protect the interests of the billionaires more meticulously than the Congress,” he said, adding that the party is an agent of the Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and that only the Left Front can keep such a “detrimental” force at
bay.
Rebuking the Trinamul, the CPI-M politbureau member said: “They have no respect for democratic institutions like the election commission or the human rights commission. Even Trinamul workers are being victimised in factional feud. Trinamul does not have the courage to order a CBI probe on major scams that have taken place during its tenure.” (SNS)
