Gangtok : Mr Ramesh Sharma, a research
scholar in the Department of Chemistry, Sikkim Manipal Institute of
Technology (SMIT), has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 22nd
April, 2014 on the topic “Physico-Chemical Properties of Sodium
Carboxymethylcellulose in Ethylene Glycol-Water Mixed Solvent Media”
under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Sanjay Dahal, Dept. of Chemistry, SMIT.
He has been recommended for award of degree by the Board of Examiners of Sikkim Manipal University.

The Doctor of Philosophy will be awarded to him during the forthcoming convocation.
Mr. Sharma was born on March 15, 1974 in Kalimpong. He graduated in B.Sc (Chemistry Honours) from Sikkim Government College, Tadong in 1997. He completed his Master Degree from North Bengal University in 1999.
After his post –graduation, he worked briefly as a Lecturer in Chemistry in Sikkim Government College. He cleared CSIR-UGC-NET (JRF) in the top 20% in December 2000. In August 2001, he joined the Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, IISc Bangalore as a Junior Research Fellow. In September 2004, he joined Sikkim Government College as a Lecturer in Chemistry. In August 2007, he joined Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology as a Lecturer in Chemistry till date.
His primary research interest is studying the transport properties of electrolytes and polyelectrolyte. He has a number of research papers in peer reviewed journals in the field, excluding the ones based on this dissertation. His other research interest includes synthetic solid state chemistry and has published a paper on the subject.
