Gorkha Janmukti Morcha vice president RP
Waiba has said BJP candidate SS Ahluwalia, who contested for the
Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat this year, is certain to win given the strong
backing of the GJM.
“The people of the hills have supported
that party that will help them form a separate state of Gorkhaland. Come
Friday, this will be clear and we will witness a landslide victory,”
claimed Waiba.
He said the GJM leadership has decided
to start conducting meetings once the election results are out and
discuss strategies that are to be taken up going forward in terms of the
statehood demand. The process will start with the demand for tribal
status for 10 hill-based communities.
“The statehood movement this time will
be taken directly to Delhi once a new government is formed at the
Centre,” remarked the GJM leader.
Commenting on the three-tier panchayat
election the GJM is demanding, Waiba said this system can be implemented
only after making a few amendments to the constitutional setup of the
hill administration. He added the party leadership will also conduct a
meeting before deciding on the two-tier panchayat election being
proposed.
Waiba further said the GJM’s zonal and
area units will now work closely and collaborate in development and
political activities in order to galvanise the masses to walk on the
path towards statehood. The party will also reshuffle its leadership
across its various units across the hills to bring in new ideas and
increase efficiency, he added.(EOIC)
