The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal
Gurung today gave a clarion call to the Gorkha population of Uttarakhand
to support BJP to “make a difference for the existing state of the
community in the county”. He made the call today while speaking at a
meeting in Haridwar, where a large number of Gorkha people were in
attendance.
Addressing the meeting Gurung said the Gorkhas of Uttarakhand should be united so that they can gain more
importance in the national socio-political map.
“The Gorkhas living here should be proud
of our language and culture. We should always strive to promote our
language and culture to ensure brotherhood within the community,” he
stated.
The GJM chief further said, “The Gorkha
Janmukti Morcha would organise linguistic and cultural camps for the
young Gorkha generation this winter here. The Gorkhas of Uttarakhand
should not only remember Shahid Durga Malla in words merely. If his
legacy is to be taken forward then a new leadership is to be created in
the centre, for this the Gorkhas living in the country must unite.”
Showing firm confidence on the saffron
party, Gurung said, “The GJM will take up all the grievances faced by
the Gorkha people in Uttarakhand including the issue of domicile and
reservation with the BJP central leadership once the BJP government
comes to power at the centre.”
According to Gurung, the BJP was the
only national party which has actively voiced the cause of the Gorkhas
and so he appealed to all the Gorkhas living in Hardiwar, Roorkee and
Dehradun to vote for the BJP and help Narendra Modi become the next
prime minister.
He further said this was his fourth
visit to the state. The first time he had come to the state was to meet
the then chief minister BC Khanduri to discuss the issue of OBC status
for the Gorkhas of Uttarakhand.(EOIC)
