In
a poll related violence following the declaration of the Lok Sabha
election results Friday evening, a GJM supporter was critically injured
in a scuffle with TMC cadres. A group of TMC supporters allegedly
attacked GJM supporter Rajen Tamang in Silu village last night. Tamang
was seriously injured and has been admitted to Mirik hospital.
Following a complaint, the police arrested five people including Tshering Lepcha, Soma Lepcha, Amardeep Chettri, Bishwadeep Chettri and Pradip Subba, all TMC supporters. They were produced before the Kurseong court today and have been sent to police custody. Mirik PS sources said the five have been booked under sections 34, 341 and 324 of the IPC. The police have initiated a probe although the scuffle was a politically-triggered one, said sources.(EOIC)
