A commemorative book titled ‘Surendra
Poddar Smriti Granth’ was today released at a programme at the Community
Hall in Kurseong in memory of social worker, veteran journalist, radio
announcer, teacher and former vice-president of the Gorkha Jan
Pustakalay, Late Surendra Poddar, who passed away on June 20 last year.
The event was jointly organised by the
Gorkha Jan Pustakalaya and the Vishnumaya Sharma Foundation of Kurseong
and the memoir was released by former IG of Jails, Krishna Singh Moktan,
who is also a senior literary figure. Several prominent literary
figures, social workers and journalists were present at the occasion.
The collection of memories about Poddar has been edited by litterateur
Chandra Sharma.
All speakers at the event stressed on
the multiple talents of Poddar and his various contributions to society.
Moktan, who was the chief guest, noted Poddar would always remain a
shining star.
Shibu Chhetri and Ashok Prashant
Chhetri, editors of Nepali dailies Himalaya Darpan and Swarnabhoomi,
respectively, were also felicitated at the programme by the organising
committee.
The programme also saw the release of a
booklet filled with motivational quotes by Swami Vivekananda, which had
been translated into Nepali by Shisupal Sharma.(EOIC)
