The festival of Teez, celebrated by
married Hindu women seeking longevity and prosperity of their husbands,
was today celebrated across the hills with great enthusiasm. Hanuman
Mandir in Bong Busty and Thakur Bari Mandir, both in Kalimpong,
witnessed a frenzy of activity since early in the morning. Women clad in
bright red saris offered prayers and celebrated the occasion with
dances and songs.
On this day, married Hindu women fast
for the entire day and pray for the long life and prosperity of their
husbands, while unmarried women pray for an ideal partner. Women
residents of town said Teez is one of the biggest Hindu festivals for
women and they have been celebrating it from time immemorial.
Similar activities were seen in Mirik as
well, where women flocked Devi Mandir and Shree Krishna Mandir in town
to offer prayers. Here too, women clad in red attire were seen dancing
and singing after offering their prayers. The day was also marked by a
special bhajan session rendered by the Sangeeni Pariwar from Sikkim.(EOIC)
