The toy train service between 'Queen of Hills' Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri resumed today, after a gap of nearly five years.
Darjeeling station manager Suman Pradhan said, "We are happy that the toy train service of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway resumed."
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consists of 88.48 km of narrow gauge track that connects New Jalpaiguri with Darjeeling, passing through Ghoom at an altitude of 2258 meters.
A special train 'Red Panda' also started from Darjeeling to Kurseong, another hill station in Darjeeling district, with domestic and foreign tourists, Pradhan said.
The toy train service was suspended on September 11, 2010, after a landslide destroyed about 600 mt of road and tracks running parallel to it at Tindharia.(PTI)
