2 persons, including girl die of suspected encephalitis in Siliguri

Siliguri, Jul 7:Two persons, including a girl, suspected to have been attacked by mosquito borne disease, died at two different health recovering facilities, official sources today said.
Chief medical officer (2) Puran Kumar Sharma said four-year-old Alana Ghosh, a resident of Deshbandu Para here, died at Mitra Nursing Home last night following suspected encephalitis.
Another resident of Rajgunge, who had been shifted to Kolkata from Anandalok Nursing Home here, also died following high fever for past few days.
Dr Sharma said the second victim was yet to be identified.However, a woman and a child, have been under going treatment at the Mitra Nursing Home with suspected encephalitis.


Dr Sharma said a government medical team visited the nursing homes to assess the situation following reports of encephalitis casualties.

He also said blood samples were being sent to Kolkata for investigations.

North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb visited the nursing homes and family of the victims to inquire about the incidents in detail.

Meanwhile, the Guardian Forum of North Bengal decided to submit memorandum to the health officials and the minister to demand adequate arrangement from the administration to check spreading of the disease.

Forum leader Sandipan Bhattacharjee said they would also submit a memo to St Joseph School to clean up its area.

Alana Ghosh was a nursery student of St Joseph School, which allegedly had inadequate healthcare facilities that a school should have.
