Darjeeling native Journalist Regina Gurung releases debut book in Bengaluru
Darjeeling: Darjeeling native Regina Gurung, who works as a journalist in Bengaluru, Karnataka, has released her debut book, Heavenly Bodies and Human Things.
The book is a poetry collection revolving around the dark side of life. It is divided into "four sections of the moon" -- the New Moon section, the Waxing Crescent, the Full Moon, and the Waning Crescent -- each symbolic of the mood the moon entails on human emotions.
Heavenly Bodies and Human Things delves into living on the dark side. Unapologetically exploring the calm and chaos of the night, echoing the traumas of sexual assault, unrequited love, hope for an ex-lover, and a quest for home in a foreign land, the poems echo the intricacies of human emotions with brutal honesty.
Bengaluru based Journalist Regina Gurung

In her mid-20s, Gurung went to Bengaluru to pursue journalism and has been working with several news media houses for about four years. While journalism is her passion-turned-profession, poetry remains to be her art. She started writing poetry at a young age but lost touch with the art when she was honing her reporting skills. It was in the later half of 2018 that she found her way back into poetry and conjured her first book Heavenly Body and Human Things.
The book has already been released on Amazon, Flipkart, and Ingram and is available in 160 countries. Gurung’s parents will host the book launch at GDNS Hall in Darjeeling on June 5.

On May 19, Gurung organised a book launch in Bengaluru at Urban Solace and made the event a community-driven reunion. The performers included Darjeeling natives Swikrity Singh and Amullya Rai. She wore an 'P.e.l.l.a' outfit designed by award-winning Darjeeling fashion designer Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama.
The host of the event was Nirjal Basnet, an A-list stylist and an androgynous model.

Fatsung book by Chuden Kavimo launched
छुदेन काविमोद्वारा लिखित उपन्यास ‘फातसुङ’-को आज सर्वजनिकरण गरिएको छ। नेपालको फाइनप्रिन्ट अनि भारतमा सम्बोधन पब्लिकेशनले प्रकाशित गरेको उपन्यास फातसुङको आज कालेबुङमा होम लञ्च गरिएको हो।

‘दार्जीलिङ पहाडवासीले दुईवटा ठूलो आन्दोलन भोगिसकेका छन्। परिचयको आन्दोलन पहिलोपल्ट अस्सीको दशकमा भएको हो। त्यस आन्दोलनले हामीलाई धेरै प्रभाव पारेर गएको छ। त्यहीँ माटोको आन्दोलनलाई युवा सर्जक छुदेन काविमोले आख्यानमा उतारेका छन्। जुन आख्यान अब हाम्रो निम्ति एउटा आन्दोलनको एउटा दस्तावेज पनि हो’- उपन्यास फातसुङबारेमा बोल्दै सर्जक सुधीर छेत्रीले भने।
‘छुदेनले पहिलो आन्दोलन व्यवहारिक रूपले भोगेनन्। तर, उनले आख्यानमा आन्दोलनको घट्नाहरू जसरी उतारेका छन् त्यो साँच्चै प्रशंसनीय रहेको छ’ सुधीर छेत्रीले अझ भने –‘राजनारयण प्रधानका भाषा शैली पाउने फातसुङ कथाको बुनोट पनि उत्तिक बेजोड रहेको छ।’
यता कार्यक्रममा सर्जक छुदेन काविमोसँग कवि प्रदीप लोहागुणले गरेको कुराकानीको क्रममा भने उनले आफ्नो पहिलो कथासङ्ग्रह 1986 प्रकाशित भएपछि आफ्ना पाठकहरूले उपन्यास लेख्ने आग्रह गरेपछि उपन्यास लेखनमा लागेको बताएका छन्। ‘फातसुङ माटोको कथा हो। आफु जन्मेर जे जस्तो सामाजिक परिवेशमा हुर्केर त्यहाँ भोगेका कुराहरूलाई नै उपन्यासमा लेखिएको छ’ छुदेनले भने।
‘मैले उपन्यास लेख्नका निम्ति धेरै जीभीसीहरूसँग भेटघाट गरेर कुराकानी गरेँ। गोर्खाल्याण्ड आन्दोलनका एकजना नेता छत्रेसुब्बासँग पनि भेट गरे। त्यसपछि सबैलाई निफनेर उपन्यासलाई जीवन्त बनाएर लेख्ने प्रयास गरेको छु’ फातसुङका सर्जक छुदेन काविमोले उपन्यास लेखनको पृष्ठभूमि केलाउँदै भनिरहेका थिए।
उनले फातसुङको मूल कथा अघिबाटै लेखिसकेपछि आखिरमा अघिल्लो भाग अनि पछिल्लो भाग लेख्न भने धेरै समय खर्चन परेको थियो। ‘उपन्यासलाई कसरी प्रभावकारी ढङ्गमा प्रस्तुत गर्नुपर्ने हो? भन्ने प्रश्नले म आफै चिन्तित थिएँ। त्यसैकारण मैले लेखेको कुरामा जबसम्म आफै सन्तुष्ट हुन सकिन तबसम्म एकाधिकपल्ट लेखिरहेँ’ छुदेनले अझ भने – ‘मैले लेखेको कुरामा म आफै सन्तुष्ट हुन सकिन भने पाठक झन् सन्तुष्ट बन्न सक्दैनन्। यसैकारण धेरैचोटि उपन्यासको सुरूवात र अन्तको कुराहरू लेख्दै च्यातेर फ्याँकिरहे।’
कालेबुङको आपास रेसिडेन्सिमा आयोजित सार्वजनिकरण कार्यक्रममा कवि मोहन ठकुरी, कवि राजेन्द्र भण्डारी, कवि मनप्रसाद सुब्बा, कथाकार उदय थुलुङ अनि सर्जक छुदेन काविमोकै बाहुलीबाट उपन्यास ‘फातसुङ’-को सार्वजनिकरण भएको थियो। यस अवसरमा सम्बोधन पब्लिकेसनका सूरज रोसुरीले फातसुङ प्रकाशक पछि आफु साँच्चै प्रकाशन बन्न सकेको सन्तुष्ट मिलेको बताए।

Darjeeling Reconsidered — Histories, Politics, Environments review
Darjeeling was transferred to the East India Company in 1835. The book under review seeks to understand the history of Darjeeling from the time of its transfer to its existential crisis in the post-colonial period through the prisms of history, politics and environment. The editors wish to avoid the stereotype of Darjeeling as a ‘hill station’ to present a more ‘grounded understanding’ of the town as a geo-political space by connecting history with the present through ethnographic and political analysis.

Challenging the ‘discovery narrative’ of the British, Townsend Middleton questions the description of ‘uninhabited Darjeeling’. He discusses investment of capital, the movement of labour to Darjeeling and locates its ‘exceptionality’ in terms of the colonial administration assigning it a special status. In delineating the early history, he has failed to do justice to the complex process of the emergence of a Nepali/ Gorkha identity in Darjeeling. Middleton also misses the larger geo-political context in the eastern Himalayan region at the turn of the 19th century, when the unification of Nepal and the strategical and commercial interests of the Company’s government played a major part in shaping the history of Darjeeling. The net result of the Company’s actions in the eastern Himalayas was to leave anxious people in the region.
Joyeeta Sharma’s essay stands out for giving ‘agency to the labouring subjects’ and recover their ‘voices, names, visages’. She focuses on the Lepchas, found to be reliable by colonial officials. The intimate knowledge of the Lepchas about nature was utilised by explorers like J.D. Hooker who sent more than 1,50,000 botanical specimens to Kew Gardens.
She talks of mobility of labour as some were able to move up in a generation. Education was a social capital, used by men like Ganga Prasad Pradhan, who was ordinated as the first pastor from a Hills community. He founded the Gorkha Press and started the first newspaper, the Gorkha Khabar Kagat, thus pioneering a Nepali print culture. Sharma brilliantly establishes the role of these labouring men in constituting Darjeeling.

Gorkhaland movement

The section on politics predictably focuses on the Gorkhaland movement from the 1980s. Bethany Lacina studies the elections to indicate that a viable multi-party system and democratic norms prevailed in Darjeeling. The rise of the political parvenu, Subhash Ghising of the Gorkha National Liberation Front, in the 1980s erased this political culture. She attributes the absence of democracy to ‘low political competition’ and the curious submission of the elite to the leader in charge at a given moment. The killing of Madan Tamang shows the price of consistent opposition. Miriam Wenner differentiates between a ‘virtuous movement’ (the demand for Gorkhaland) and ‘dirty politics’ (serving the self). She shows how what she calls ‘the art of camouflage’ helped people to use coercion and violence to practise dirty politics while ostensibly seeking the virtuous goal.
Mona Chettri, in analysing the domination of ‘rowdies’ in the political arena at the present, asserts that this is a ‘subaltern political phenomenon and a part of the distinct political culture’, following from underdevelopment and criminalisation of politics.
While her use of the rowdies’ phenomenon is unexceptionable as a general statement, it is difficult to accept that this phenomenon is unique to Darjeeling. In effect, the essays here take a cynical, if also realistic, view of the low level of opportunistic politics that now characterises political culture in Darjeeling.
Ethnic diversity
Nilamber Chhetri’s excellent essay explores the history of ethnic associations in Darjeeling. Given this history of diverse ethnic groups, there was ‘a conflation of jati (ethnic) and jat (caste) identities’. Recently formed associations transformed a socio-cultural quest into a political act. Chhetri sees here a renegotiation of identity dependent on ‘varying claims of authentic heritage, culture and religion’.
This ‘interface... represents the changing contours of ethnopolitics in the hills’. The establishment of a plethora of development boards might in the future lead to a fragmentation of the Nepali/ Gorkha identity, perhaps resulting in an entirely different kind of ethno-politics.

The class question

Swatahsiddha Sarkar and Babika Khawas pay tribute to Kumar Pradhan, an intellectual from Darjeeling, by exploring his work to locate the class question in the development of the Nepali identity in Darjeeling. Pradhan perhaps did not address the class question consciously, but sought to understand the complex processes of the formation of a Nepali identity among dispossessed migrants. As a consequence, Nepali emerged as the lingua franca of the area and tribal exclusiveness was gradually shed to produce an inclusive Nepali/ Gorkha identity.
In the final section on environments and labour, Sarah Besky studies the brief career of the Darjeeling Tea Management Training Centre which was set to ‘reconcile the tension between an aspiration of economic development and an aspiration of ethnic recognition’, but failed. Debarati Sen studies women producing organic tea on a small scale with the help of NGOs by forming cooperatives, and shows how they ‘navigate inequities’.
The book comprises 11 well-researched essays. The early history of Darjeeling has been presented well, though the quest of the people of the hills for autonomy in the last century has not been properly analysed. A particular absence is the silence on the language movements. These quibbles apart, the book is a welcome addition to the small corpus of academic books on Darjeeling.

The Darjeeling Mail book by David Charlesworth
With a view to compile a book on the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) the editor of the Darjeeling Mail published from England and popular Indian forest community documentary maker visited Siliguri Town Station today.
Darjeeling Mail editor David Charlesworth and documentary maker Amit Mukhopadhyay visited Siliguri Town station along with DHR India Support Group Secretary General Raj Basu.
The visit was planned unexpectedly while discussing a new book Darjeeling’s Wonderful Railway, A Visitor’s Guide that will be published by the DHR Society in England.
Basu apprised the two visitors on several personalities who visited the Siliguri Town station during the British rule in India. He informed them several great personalities as well as Swami Vivekananda, Sister Nivedita, Jagdish Chandra Bose, Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi and Baghajatin had visited the station.
Following the visit to Siliguri Town station, Charlesworth, Mukhopadhyay and Basu visited the famous sweet shops Mungaram Sweets and Srishtidhar Sweets. They even visited the area to see the ‘Gadis’ of shop owners before ending their trip to Siliguri Town Station.
Steam locomotives hold a special place in the hearts of people from across the globe. With UNESCO declaring the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) a World Heritage Site in 1999, the toy train from the Darjeeling hills has become even more popular across the world. Although the toy train station is still functioning and is maintained regularly, the once historic Siliguri Town Station is currently in deplorable condition. (EOIC)

Kalimpong-born author-illustrator brings Tales on Tweet with 50 stories
A Kalimpong-born author-illustrator has curated stories told in 140-charater tweets by established and aspiring writers and brought out a book with illustrations.
Tales on Tweet, released by Congress MP and writer Shashi Tharoor in New Delhi on August 1, has been hailed for its novelty: 50 stories in less than 140 characters.
Before the book, Manoj Pandey used to get tweets on his handle @TalesOnTweet. Around 1,000 stories have appeared there and Pandey chose 50 of them for the book.
Illustrations for the book were done by New York-based Japanese artist Yuko Shimizu.

"It was an honour to have Mr Tharoor release the book, especially since he has been very encouraging about the project which I had started in 2011," Pandey said over the phone from Delhi.
Pandey started by sharing snippets of his writings on the twitter handle in the hope of getting ideas and honest criticism. To his surprise, authors like Tharoor and booker prize winner Salman Rushdie responded with stories of their own.
"I was just treating it as an online digital diary, where I wrote stories within 140 characters, with the hashtag #talesontweet. I had tagged few of my favourite authors like Shashi Tharoor, Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood. To my surprise, they wrote back, not with criticism, but with a story," he said.

For instance, Rushdie's post that is featured in the book reads: "She died. He followed her into the underworld. She refused to return, preferring Hades. It was a long way to go to be dumped."
Actor Kabir Bedi wrote: "On the banks of the Ganges, he'd prepare a thousand funeral pyres, not knowing the sorrow of death. Till his son died."
Enthused by the tales that he started receiving, Pandey started thinking about coming out with a book to enable readers not on the web or social media to sample the fare.
"So, I thought maybe I could come up with a book myself," said the 32-year-old alumnus of St Augustine's School in Kalimpong.
Once his mind was made up, Pandey, a copywriter and illustrator with an advertisement agency, began the process of editing and curating from all these tweets.
While on the job, he thought of getting the mini-stories illustrated and zeroed in on Yuko, of whom he is a self-confessed fan.
"Yuko Shimizu is a Japanese illustrator based in New York," said Pandey.
Their combined effort, which is published by HarperCollins India, is getting rave reviews.
Tharoor wrote about the book: "Brilliantly conceived, artfully written, evocatively illustrated, Tales on Tweet is both wildly original and endlessly diverting. A collectors' classic."
Prajwal Parajuly, the Sikkim-born writer, said: "Delightful. So much fun. So many stories. Read the book. Re-read it. Re-re-re read it. Buy a copy for your neighbor who reads. Buy a copy for a neighbor who dislikes reading." (TT)

Indra bahadur Rai holding Ramayan translated in English by Dr Gokul Sinha
Two weeks before the 201st Birth Anniversary of Adi Kavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, one of Darjeeling's literary greats Dr. Gokul Sinha gave him an advanced birthday present - an English translation of his Ramayan.

The book was launched yesterday by Gorkhali Icon Dr. Indra Bahadur Rai amidst a small ceremony at his place in the presence of Shri. Chandra Sharma and Shri. Manikamal Chettri.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. IB Rai said, "though Bhanuhakta's Ramayan has been translated into other Languages, but he had to wait for 200 years to get it translated to English.... I congratulate Dr. Sinha for taking up this great endeavour."

Dr. Gorkhul Sinha stated, "while attending national and international conferences and seminars on literature, I found that Bhanubhakta's Ramayan had been translated in numerous languages, but no one had done so in English... that is how I got my inspiration." (TDC)

Joseph Rozario launched North Bengal recipes cookbook
Joseph Rozario, a chef and culinary expert from Siliguri, today launched a cookbook focusing on the cuisines of different tribes in north Bengal.
According Rozario, the second runner-up in the second season of MasterChef India, his book Untouched North Bengal is an attempt to document dishes prepared by tribes like Rajbangshi, Santhal, Toto, Rava and Mech.
"The region is home to several tribes and each has a variety of recipes. However, most of the dishes have lost their relevance and are slowly fading into oblivion. My book is an attempt to document these recipes before they are completely lost," said Rozario.
Three years of research and travel since mid-2012 contributed to the book with 20 recipes. There are also other 25 recipes of Bengali and Nepali dishes.
"I visited different places in the Terai and Dooars to meet members of different tribes. I met elderly members who would describe the ingredients and the method of preparation of dishes. In most cases, I asked them to prepare the dishes to have a better idea. I also tried a few," said the 29-year-old chef.
Some of the recipes include didouli bidot (pork pulao) and pakha shati (pumpkin and pork stew) of the Totos, gunra k uttu (dried leaf curry) of the Santhals and bhapa pithe (rice cake) of the Rajbangshis.
"Apart from the method of preparation, I have elaborately described the significance of each dish," Rozario said.
Rozario said his passion for cooking came from his father Horo Rozario, who was a chef at a Siliguri restaurant.
Joseph Rozario joined the army as a chef at the age of 17 and he cooked there for nine years before resigning in 2011 to participate in MasterChef India.
"My father is the inspiration. My experience of cooking for over 500 soldiers has helped me a lot too," said Rozario, who is a culinary instructor in a private school near Siliguri.(TT)

Indra Bahadur Rai's book Sampurak released in Kalimpong
Renowned litterateur Indra Bahadur Rai new critique book ‘Sampurak’ along writer Sanjay Bisht Story Collection ‘Jun Jastai Gham’, poet Sudhir Chettri ‘Feri Arko Anustup’, and Song book Kaha Paryo Chautari of Puskar Parajuli was released todat at a time in Kalimpong.
Books released program was held under the banner of Umpa Publication the book publisher.
The program was under the president ship of Noted poet Sanumati Rai . Mohan P Dahal was present as the chief guest while Rajnarayan Pradhan and Mohan Thakuri as Special Guest.
Tika Bhai Yuwa Sahitya Acadamy Puraskar winner this year was too felicitated today on the day.
Sikkims Pravin Rai Jumeli and Dr Rajendra Bhandari threw light on Nepali Poetry reading journey while Jai Cactus on synchronous Nepali literature. Many literary figure and local was seen in the program.

Surendra Poddar Smriti Granth released
A commemorative book titled ‘Surendra Poddar Smriti Granth’ was today released at a programme at the Community Hall in Kurseong in memory of social worker, veteran journalist, radio announcer, teacher and former vice-president of the Gorkha Jan Pustakalay, Late Surendra Poddar, who passed away on June 20 last year.
The event was jointly organised by the Gorkha Jan Pustakalaya and the Vishnumaya Sharma Foundation of Kurseong and the memoir was released by former IG of Jails, Krishna Singh Moktan, who is also a senior literary figure. Several prominent literary figures, social workers and journalists were present at the occasion. The collection of memories about Poddar has been edited by litterateur Chandra Sharma.
All speakers at the event stressed on the multiple talents of Poddar and his various contributions to society. Moktan, who was the chief guest, noted Poddar would always remain a shining star.
Shibu Chhetri and Ashok Prashant Chhetri, editors of Nepali dailies Himalaya Darpan and Swarnabhoomi, respectively, were also felicitated at the programme by the organising committee.
The programme also saw the release of a booklet filled with motivational quotes by Swami Vivekananda, which had been translated into Nepali by Shisupal Sharma.(EOIC)

Paridhibhitra - a collection of political articles book by Kalimpong MLA Dr. Harka Bahadur launched
GJM spokesperson and Kalimpong MLA Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri today launched his book ‘Paridhibhitra’, a collection of political articles he has written over the years. 
Confessing of neglecting his passion for writing, Chettri said his political engagements have made it impossible for him to take time out for writing. However, he said he would strive to write along with advancing his political career.
Chettri is first known for being an ardent writer and then as a political figure, but the amount of time he used to give to his writing shrunk after he stepped into politics.
 ‘Paridhibhitra’, which features a number of Chettri’s political articles published in local Nepali dailies, especially ‘Sunchari Samachar, was originally a dream of his wife Radhika Chettri.
 “This book was my dream. We initially wanted to publish it last year, but were no able to,” she said.  
The book was unveiled by Chettri’s friends Anmol Prasad, RP Dhakal and Sanumit Rai. Visibly happy, Chettri said, “I was always enthusiastic about writing; I could not sleep without reading and writing. But now when I sit to write, my desk is filled with administrative papers and documents.”
RP Dhakal termed Chettri as an undaunted writer of the 1990s. “To follow diktats then was to lose freedom, but Dr. Chettri did not; he enjoyed his freedom instead,” noted Dhakal.
The book release event was also marked by poetry recitals by eminent poets of town, including Manoj Bogati, Pradip Lohagun, DK Waiba and Chewang Yonzon, among others.(EOIC)

डी के वाइबा:कालेबुङ 13 अप्रेल। घाऊका रंगहरु, बिम्ब गोष्ठि अनि गीतको रीस जस्ता तीनवटा कविता संकलन प्रकाशित गरिसकेका युवा कवि मनोज बोगटीको चौथो कविता संकलन पसिनाको छाला आज यहाँको रामकृष्ण रंगमञ्चम बिधिवत लोकार्पण भयो। यस अवसरमा न त कुनै महान साहित्यकारहरु थिए न त कविहरुकै जमघट थियो। तर, थिए कार्यक्रममा कृषकहरु जसलाई कविले यसचोटिको कविता संकलन समर्पित गरेका छन। गाउँघरमा गाई बाँधेर हत्केलामा ठेला फुटाउँदै परिश्रम फलाउँनेहरु बिचै तिनको कविता संकलन बिमोचन भयो। कलेबुङ कृषक कल्याण संगठनको पाँचौ स्थापना दिवसको अवसरमा खचाखक कृषकहरुको भीड रहेको कार्यक्रममा मुख्य अथिति महकुमा अधीकारी एल एन शेर्पा अनि कृषक कल्याण संगठनका महासचिव बिष्णु छेत्रीले पुस्तको बिमोचन गरिसके पछि कार्यक्रमलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै कवि बोगटीले गाई बॉंध्नेहरू जसको निम्ति यी कविताहरू लेखिए उनीहरूलाई नै समर्पित छन्‌ कविता भने। तिनले कृषकहरूको प्रत्येक दुखेसोलाई कविताको मुटु बनाएका छन। खेतमा माटोको ढेलाहरु फुटाएर पसिना बगाउँनेहरुको ब्याथाले कविलाई छोएको छ जसको कारण नै पसिनाको छला सृजना हुन पुगेको तिनले थप बताए। देशको नीति निर्धारण गर्नेहरुको आँखि ओझेलमा परेका कृषकहरुको नाममा किन कविता सम्बोधन भएको छैन भन्दै ति नीतिहरुबाट छोडिएका कृषकहरुकै स्वर नै पसिनाको छला हुन भनि कवि बोगटेले भने जहाँ कृषकहरु एका एक अनुत्तरित बनेर सुनिरहे। कालेबुङ कृषक कल्याण सह्गठनले प्रकाशन गरिदिएका तिनको चौथो कृति सार्वजनिक गर्दै तिनीले नयॉं वर्षको उपहार कृषकहरूलाई पसिनाको छाला भने। सधैँ साहित्यकारहरूको जमघट गरेर आफ्ना कृतिहरूको विमोचन गर्दै आइरहेका चर्चित युवा कवि वोगटीले चौथो संग्रहको विमोचन कुनै प्रशिद्ध साहित्यकारबाट गरेनन्‌। प्रकाशक विष्णु छेत्रीले सही मानसिकताको स्थापनामा कालेबुङ कृषक कल्याण सङ्गठनले गरिरहेको लडाईँमा कविताहरू मनोज वोगटीका कविताहरू सिपाही रहेको बताइरहेका थिए। शक्तिशाली कविताले विचार निर्माणमा जुन भूमिका पालन गर्छ, यस्तो बलियो कार्य अरु केहीले गर्न नसक्ने भन्दै तिनले कृषक सरोकारको कुरालाई  कवितामा उल्लेख गर्दै कृषकहरूलाई सम्बोधन गर्ने पहिलो कवि वोगटी नै रहेको बताए। केवल कृषकहरू मात्र निम्त्याइएको कार्यक्रममा कोही साहित्यकारहरूको उपस्थिति थिएन। छेत्रीले कवि बोगटीको कविता कृषकहरुको दबिएको स्वर रहेको बताउँदै पसिना बगाउँनेहरुको स्वर आज कवितामा बिस्फोट भएको दाबी गरे।

धनवीर खड्का सन् १९४७ मा देशको विभाजन हुँदा दिल्लीको शरणार्थी क्याम्पमा सहायताको लागि खटिएका थिए | गोर्खा बटालियन रिलिफ क्याम्पमा शरणार्थीहरुलाई दवाई पानी र लुगाफाटा लगायत खाने कुरा र तम्बुको बन्दोबस्त गर्नु उनको प्रमुख कार्य थियो |
हवल्दार मेजर धनवीर खड्का र पाँच - छजना सिपाहीहरुचाहिँ आनन्द पर्वतको क्याम्पमा जाँदा त्यहाँनेर एकजना वृद्ध अनुहारमा विरक्ति र नैराश्यभाव साथै अश्रुसित आँखामा अथाह वेदना र व्यग्रता बोकेर विलाप गरिरहेका थिए | पछि तिनलाई सोध्दा थाहा भयो कि प्रथम र द्वितीय विश्वयुद्धमा भाग लिने सुबेदार मानवीर छेत्री पो रहेछ |

पेन्सनपछि क्वेटा शहरस्थित छावनी मै सानोतिनो हुटेल खोलेर आफ्नो परिवारको भरण - पोषण गरिरहेको तर हाल पुरै परिवार बेपत्ता, र कुनै समाचार नपाउँदा बुदो मानवीर भक्कानो छोडेर रोइरहेका थिए | हजारौं परिवार बेपत्ता भएको छ | चारैतिर नैराश्य, कोलाहल र चित्कार मात्र सुनिन्छ |
शरणार्थी क्याम्प कस्तो हुन्छ | भय, रोग,भोक, विलाप, तिरस्कार, मानसिक उत्पीडन र फोहोर छ यो क्याम्प सुँगुरको खोर जस्तो छ | खापैखाप नानीहरु केटाकेटीहरु सुतिरहेका छन् | हजारौं शरणार्थीहरुमा १०/१२ घर गोर्खा परिवारको पनि थाहा लाग्यो | कोही आसाम(नेफा) का कोही देहरादुन, कोही हिमाचल , सिक्किम र दार्जीलिंगकाहरु थिए | सबै अवकाशप्राप्त सिपाहीहरु सबैले क्वेटा छावनीलाई नै आफ्नो कर्मभूमि बनाएर अहिलेसम्म त्यहीं नै बसोबास गरिरहेका थिए | सबैका सपना र भावी भविष्यको कल्पना चकनाचुर भयो | हठात देश विभाजन र त्यसपछिको त्रासदीले सम्पूर्ण विश्वमा नै भुइँचालो आए झैँ भएको छ | 
 चारैतिर काटमार, चारैतिर भागाभाग, रुवाबासी,बर्बरता र रगतको नदि बगिरहेको छ | सारा शहरमा घरिघरि कर्फ्यु लगिबस्छ | बल्लबल्ल सेना र पुलिसको मदतले चारैतिर वातावरण शान्त भएको छ | अस्पतालहरु घाइते र रोगीहरुको ओइरोले दिनदिनै भरिएको छ | समाजसेवीहरुले पनि अब शरणार्थी क्याम्पको चक्कर काट्न थाले | जनश्रमदानले क्याम्प,बाटोघाटो र शौचालयहरु पनि बनिन थाले | 
यसैबीच मानवीर छेत्रीकी स्वास्नी र छोराछोरी सबैजना क्याम्पमा असाध्य दु:ख पाएर फर्के | मनवीरले आफ्नो परिवारलाई जिउँदो, सही सलामत आफ्नो अघि देख्दा, उसको हर्षको सिमा नै रहेन | एका अर्कालाई आँखाभरि आँशु लिएर अंकमाल गरिरहेका थिए | कतिजनाको परिवार अहिलेसम्म पनि बिछोडिएकोले गर्दा मन अमिलो पारेर  एकाअर्कालाई पर्खिरहेका थिए | जिउँदो छ कि छैन भन्ने सोचाईले सबैजना भयभित थिए | एकै छिनमा नराम्रो दु:खद खबरले क्याम्पको वातावरणमा हर्ष र विषाद, दु:ख र सुखका लहर देखिन थाल्यो | एकातिर राष्ट्र स्वाधीन भएकोमा पुरा राष्ट्र नै खुशीयाली मनाइरहेका बेलामा हजारौ परिवारहरु आफन्तहरुका मृत्यु , विछोड र बेपत्ता भएकोमा दु:खी भइरहेका थिए | 

एक वर्षपछि चारैतिर वातावरण शान्त भएपछि एक दिन धनवीर र मानवीर करोलबागमा भेटेर एकाअर्काको भलोकुसारी सोधपूछ गरिसकेपछि पो धनवीरले सोध्छ  - " बाबा कतातिर लाग्नु भएको ? "
" उही त हो नानी ! मुल्लाको दौड मस्जिदतक, पेन्सन थाप्नु बैंक गएको | " 
" नानीहरुको पल्टन कहिलेसम्म यहाँ बस्छ ?"
"यसै वर्षभित्र राजस्थान जानेवाला छौ |" - भनेर धनवीर विदा माग्छ |
"नानी ! आइतबार छुट्टि भए यसो गरिबको घरमा पनि आउनु नि !" - भन्दै मानवीर अघि बढ्छ |
समय कति छिटो बित्छ | आखिरी एक दिन धनवीर मिठाइको डिब्बा र दुई बोतल रम बोकेर मानवीरको घरमा जान्छ | घर सानै भए तापनि सफा - सुग्घर र सुसज्जित हुन्छ | देवलमा खुकुरी झुन्डिएको हुन्छ |
अलिक अघिल्लो देवलमा चाहिँ सुबेदार मानवीरको मेडल लगाएको फोटो देखेर धनवीरले त्यसबारे जान्न चाहंदा मनवीरले भन्छ - " यो फर्स्ट वर्ल्ड वारको र अर्को सेकेन्ड वर्ल्ड वारको मेडल हो |"
यसै प्रसंगलाई विस्तार गर्दै मनवीरले कसरी पानीजहाजमा चडेर अरबसागरबाट मिश्र हुँदै युरोप पुगेको कथा सुनाउँछ | धनवीर पनि एक अवोध बालक झैँ लट्टीएको झैँ भएर बुडाको बात सुनिरहन्छ | खानापिना सबै सकेपछि तथा रात छिप्पिसकेपछि धनवीर बिदा लिएर बाहिर निस्कन आँटदा मनवीरले दुवै हात जोडेर धनवीरलाई भन्छ - " नानीले अन्यथा नमान्ने हजुरसित एउटा बिन्ति छ | त्यो के हो भने मेरी कान्छी छोरी मनमायाको हात हजुरलाई दिउँ भनेर सोचेको छु |" 
धनवीरले अर्को हप्ता आउनेछु भनेर त्यहाँबाट बिदा लिए | धनवीर बाटोमा हिड्दा मनमा नाना किसिमको कल्पना गर्दै आफ्नो क्याम्प पुगे , लखतरान भएर सुतेपछि एकैचोटि बिहान पी० टी० - मा हाजिर भए | आफू एक त लाहुरे, त्यही माथी टुहुरो , आमाबाबु तथा शाखा - सन्तानको टुंगो छैन | आफ्नो बिहे गर्ने उमेर भइसक्यो र रहर पनि छ | साथीभाइको सर- सल्लाह कहिले टेरपुच्छर लगाएन | सबै साथीहरुले उसलाई भन्थे - " नडराउनु  साथी ! कि पदेर जानिन्छ कि परेर | बिहे भएपछि सबै थोक आफै ठीक हुन्छ |" 

एक  महिना भित्र नै धनवीर र मनमायाको बिहे भयो | एक वर्षपछि उ सरुवा भएर राजस्थान पुग्छ | मनमाया माइत मै बस्छे | धनवीर दुई महिनाको छुट्टीमा घर आउँदा , मनमायालाई दुई जिउकी छे भन्ने खबर सुनेर उ खुशीले नाच्न थाल्छ | तर एक महिना भित्र नै मनमायालाई बेथा लागेर अस्पताल पुराइन्छ | धनवीरले छुट्टी बढाउन नसकेर पल्टन फर्किन्छ | विवशतामा बाँच्नु परेको यो लाहुरे जीवन, मुटुमाथि ढुंगा राखी बाँच्नु परेको छ | 
पल्टन पुगेको तीन दिनभित्रै मनमाया मरेकी तर जन्मिएकी छोरीचाहिँ जिउँदै छ भन्ने मुटु चुडाउने तार आइपुग्छ | धनवीरले कसरी यो बज्रघात सहने ! सबैले सम्झाएर, बुझाएर उसलाई स्वास्नीको अन्तिम संस्कार गर्न छुट्टी पठाए | सबैले उसको दु:खलाई र वेदनालाई बुझेको हुन्छ | लाहुरेहरु पनि सामान्य मानिसहरु झैं हुन् | उनीहरुको पनि हृदय हाम्रो झैँ हुन्छ ढुंगाको हुँदैन |
धनवीर क्रिया - कर्म सकेर हरिद्वार, बद्रीनाथ र केदारनाथ भएर पल्टनमा हाजिर हुन्छ | सबै साथीभाईहरुले उसलाई अर्को बिहे गर्नु भनेर अपहत्ते गर्थे | धनवीर बाघ झैँ गर्जेर रिसाउँथे | " मुर्ख हो ! नजाने गाउँको बाटो किन सोध्नु ? " भनेर हकार्थे | छोरीको भविष्यबारे सोद्धा उ झन विचलित हुन्थे , छोरीको भविष्य बारे सोध्नेलाई अपशब्द प्रयोग गर्दै गाली गर्थे | खर्चपात भने महिनापिछे नै ससुरालीमा पठाउँथे | मनवीरको ठुलो छोरीको जायजन्म केही थिएन | बडो खुसीका साथमा तिनीहरुले त्यो छोरीलाई अपनाए | छोरीको नाम चाहिं स्मृतिमा राखिदिएका थिए | उ सानैदेखि संस्कारी तथा पूजा पाठ गर्न रुचाउने प्रवृतिका थिई | उनलाई मास्टर मित्रसेनले गाएका सबै भजनहरु मुखस्थ थियो |

धनवीर रिटायर्ड हुने बेलामा स्मृतिमा मेडिकलको पदाई गर्दै गरेको खबर सुनेर , आफुले अवकाशप्राप्तपछि पाएको पैसा पठाएर दुई लाइन लेखेको पत्र -
अभागी छोरीलाई 
अभागी बाबुको तर्फबाट 
भविष्यमा डाक्टर बनेर कुनै सुत्केरी आमालाई मर्न नदिनु बस |
त्यसपछि धनवीर साधु भएर विभिन्न धामहरुको दर्शन गर्दै अनन्त: काशीमा प्राण त्याग गरे |

डी के वाइबा: कालेबुङ, 3 मार्च। प्रगतिशिल युवा कवि टिका भाईको तेस्रो कविता संकलन ‘पाईताला तलतिर’ को आज यहाँको हिमालयन होटलको कन्फरेन्स हलमा बिधिवत लोकार्पण गरियो। उपमा पब्लिकेशन र बसिबिँयालो परिवारको आयोजनामा सम्पन्न कार्यक्रममा मुख्य अथिताका रुपमा उपस्थित कालेबुङका बयोबृद्ध कवियत्री सानुमति राई, टी बी ठकुरी, कथाकार सञ्जय बिष्ट अनि युवा कवि राजा पुनियाले पाईतला तलतिर कविता संग्रहको बिधिवत लोकार्पण गरे पछि राजा पुनियानीले पुस्तक बिमोचनको औपचारिक घोषणा गरे। पुस्तक बिमोचन कार्यक्रममा कवि टिका भाईले नयाँ तक्निकी फेसबुकको पनि प्रयोग गरेर कार्यक्रमलाई ऐतिहासिक बनाए। यता पुस्तकको औपचारिक बिमोचन संग संगै उता फेसबुकमा पनि प्रोजेक्टर लगाएर कवि टिका भाईले आफ्नो प्रोफाएलमा कृतिको बिधिवत लोकार्पण गरे।  मञ्च र फेसबुकमा एकैचोटी, एकै समयमा पाइलातल्तिरको विमोचनले इतिहास नै रच्यो-कवि सुबास सोताङले हल्लै गरिरहेका भने। कवि टिका भाईले प्रमका कविता लेख्दै लेख्दैनन् भनि राजा पुनियानीले सम्बोधन गर्दै भने। प्रोजक्टरबाट फेसबुकमा टीकाभाइको विमोचन भएको सबैले देखे।
 हेर्दाहेर्दै काठमाण्डौका कवि भूपिन व्याकूल लगायत विश्वभरि छरिएकाहरुले टिका भाईका नेपाली पाठखहरूको लाइक र कमेन्टको भीड जम्यो। उता लाइक र कम्नेट चर्किरहेको बेला यता कथाकार शमशेर अलिले टीकाभाइमाथि कुरा राख्दै भनिरहेका थिए, टीका सॉंच्ची कै कवि हुन्‌। तिनी आफैमा हज्जार कविता। जनताका कवि। पाइतालातल्तिर पनि सास फेर्दै बसिरहेकाहरूका कवि। कवि टीकाको कवित्वले उन्मुक्तिको निकास खोजिरहेको देखिएको शमशेर अलीले सुनाए। जति विमोचन रोमाञ्चक उति नै रोमाञ्चक कविहरूको जवान उपस्थिति। नयाँ तरिकाले आयोजना गरिएको पुस्तक बिमोचन कार्यक्रममा फेसबुकमा लाईक बटम थिच्नेहरुको संख्या बडीरहेको समयमा कवि भूपेन्द्रले कालेबुङमा च्यानलहरू बन्द गरेको रिस्‌मा लेखेका कविता वाचन गरेर सबैलाई मख्ख पारे। यसरी नै कार्यक्रममा कवि सुवास सोताङले मिठो कविता वाचन गरे भने  कवि राजा पुनियानीले पनि उत्तिक्कै जोसपूर्ण कविता वाचन गरे। टीका भाइले सबैलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै  म आमाको नजिक छुइनँ तर, आमाको नजिक मेरो कविता छ। कविता खोज्न म तिनीसित नै चिउरा चपाउँदै बसें। पिल्सिएको पहाड र सुकेको खेत पुगें। समाजको नजिकनजिक पुगें र थाहा पाएँ, सबैसबै पाइताला तल्तिर नै रहेछन्‌ र कविता लेखें कविता संग्रह तयार बनिनुको धरातल स्पष्ट पारे। टी बी ठकुरीले अध्यक्षता गरेको कार्यक्रमलाई कवि मनोज बोगटिले सञ्चालन गरेका थिए।
