The Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony was the Chief Whip cum MLA Lingey Payong; Ugen T Gyatso. The Chief Guest during his inaugural speech appreciated the effort and the contribution made by BAS for providing the commendable opportunities to the players of the state and sincerely enhancing their skills since so many years.
Adding further, Chief Guest appealed all the participants to take full advantage from the 5 days long badminton tournament . ‘This is an appropriate platform for the players to enhance their skills, whatever challenges, hindrances comes forth needs to be solved to get the output” stated the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest appealed all the players to give their 100% and to make the state proud by showcasing the outstanding performances in the tournament. The Chief Guest also wished the participating players a very good luck. During the inaugural ceremony, it was informed by the General Secretary of BAS, P Rapden that the tournament is conducted by the association every year.
‘We are very delighted that this year the response from the participants had quite increased for the tournament compared to earlier years’ stated the General Secretary. There is no doubt that BAS is putting its best effort towards enhancing the skills of the players from the state in this format of game. Adding more Mr. Rapden stated that ‘we do hope that the journey of BAS shall remain always optimistic and fruitful’.
In the first round of the tournament more than 350 participants from all four
districts have participated. It was informed that, a total of 14 events are being organized under different category in the championship. The tournament is an open tournament for both small and veterans.
The day was also attend by the President of Badminton Association of Sikkim, C Zangpo accompanied by the Minister for Urban Development and Housing Department, DB Thapa who is also the member of BAS including other members of BAS.
