GJM to inclusion of some mouzas (areas) from the Dooars and Terai regions into GTA: Giri
Kolkata, Sep 12 (PTI) A high-power committee is working on inclusion of some mouzas (areas) from the Dooars and Terai regions under the jurisdiction of the newly-formed Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha said today.The general secretary GJM Roshan Giri was talking to reporters after a meeting here to review the progress made in the implementation of the GTA agreement signed by the Centre, the West Bengal government and the GJM on July 18.The first-ever review meeting was attended by representatives of the Centre, West Bengal government and the GJM.While the Centre was represented by Union Home Ministry Additional Secretary B Bhamathi, the state government was represented by Home Secretary G D Gautama and GJM by Giri.One of the clauses of the agreement was that a committee would examine the possibility of inclusion of some mouzas into the GTA ambit, which was resisted by Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad, a dominant organisation in Dooars and Terai.Giri said the meeting discussed the administrative infrastructure of the GTA, Centre''s assurance on an additional economic package worth Rs 200 crore for GTA, introduction of a three-tier panchayati raj system in the hills and formation of the GTA youth para-military force among other things. The GTA replaced the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council formed in 1988.
