Kurseong News-woman found in a pool of blood in front of the Tindharia railway station

KURSEONG, 7 SEPT: Panic gripped Tindharia under the Kurseong sub-division this morning after the police recovered an unidentified body of a woman found in a pool of blood in front of the Tindharia railway station (see sns photo). The police suspect it to be a case of rape and murder. The locals turned angry over the incident and alleged that such incidents keep occurring due to the lack of proper security in the area.
As per police sources, the woman was hacked to death by a sharp weapon. The body was sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. An inquiry has started, informed the police.
The Kurseong SDPO, Mr NN Bhutia, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway director, Mr PP Ray visited the site to investigate the matter. The locals vent their grievances in the presence of the senior officials and demanded tightening of security to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
A local, Mr V Chettri, said that the murder at the important rail station was the most unfortunate incident for the Darjeeling Hills as a whole. “Tindharia holds an important place for the Indian railways. But there is no worthwhile security in and around the station. The administration must strengthen security, otherwise such incidents would keep recurring. We have appealed to the Kurseong SDPO to upgrade the Tindharia police outpost. Most of the times, there is no policeman to man the outpost,” he added.
The SDPO assured the locals that proper security arrangements would be made to ensure security for the rail station and the locals.
“We are all concerned with such a crime having taken place in the vicinity of the important railway station,” the SDPO said.
