Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA) clarified the statement made by All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU)

Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA) has clarified to the statement made by All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) published on October 10 under the caption “AAGSU Claims ‘new settlers’ in Merapani; flays Assam’s inaction”.

 NGU stated that it took up the matter with AAGSU as to how such a statement was issued by Nanda Kirati Dewan, the information & publicity secretary of AAGSU, which was highly sensitive, irresponsible and unsubstantiated while also accusing the Nagaland government, Assam government as well as the central paramilitary forces of connivance in encouraging “new settlers” in Merapani areas.

NGA president Nobin Pradhan in a press release stated that president of AAGSU Jagdish Khanal voiced concern and assured NGA that views expressed by Nanda Kirati Dewan were his personal views and did not in any manner reflect the official position of AAGSU.

Khanal has condemned the news item and the statement made by Nanda Kirati Dewan and has also assured NGA of taking punitive action against the information & publicity secretary for misusing the strength of his official position in AAGSU.

While the matter of settling any border disputes between the state governments solely rests with the respective governments, issuing of such irresponsible statements by Nanda Kirati Dewan was very highly condemnable and creates mistrust between communities which have been living in close harmony for ages, added NGA.

It further condemned Nanda Kirati Dewan and his irresponsible and un-substantiated statement and reminded him not to step beyond his brief as information & publicity secretary of AAGSU.
