Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojana scheme 307 villages electrified

Shillong, November 29 2011: Altogether 307 villages have been electrified in Manipur under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojana, a scheme under the Ministry of Power and Rural Electrification Corporation.

Under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGVVY), under the Ministry of Power, Govt.

of India, and Rural Electrification Corporation, cumulatively as on October 31, 2011, the electrification works in 99,470 unelectrified villages in the country have been completed and free electricity connections to 1,73,79,364 Below Poverty Line (BPL) households have been provided, according to Press Information Bureau in Shillong today.

In the North Eastern region, the BPL households which have been covered cumulatively till October 31, 2011 including remote and backward areas under RGGVY are Assam 717459, Arunachal Pradesh 18021, Manipur 11518, Meghalaya 41174, Mizoram 11134, Nagaland 24569, Sikkim 8801 and Tripura 71389, the source said.

The villages covered are Assam 7113, Arunachal Pradesh 943, Manipur 307, Meghalaya 245, Mizoram 69, Nagaland 75, Sikkim 23 and Tripura 120.32 projects to cover the remaining villages in the country are under examination in the Ministry, the source added.
