Guwahati  December 23 (Agencies)MeXn: The 36th foundation day of All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) the apex influential organisation of Gorkha students and youth of Assam will be held at Bandarguri in Odalguri under  Bodoland Terretorial Council (BTC) Assam with a two day colourful program on December 26 and 27 Dec 2011.
Today’s All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) then All Assam Nepali Students’ Union (AANSU) was formed on December 26 through conglomeration of Darrang Gorkha Students’ Union, Brihhatar Guwahati Nepali Students’ Union, Upper Assam Gorkha Students’ Union with a mission to unite all the scattered populace Gorkhas of Assam, co-ordinate to fight for constitutional rights through democratic means and establish Gorkhas as son of this soil and a vision to concretise and establish the Gorkha community as the ‘Son of the Soil, Pride of the Nation’. Dr. Harkha Bahadur Chetri of BTC and Binod Khanal of Jagun Tinsukia were unanimously elected as president and general secretary respectively. 
The two days program will begin with hoisting of the AAGSU flag by president Jagadish Khanal and paying floral tribute to martyrs by general secretary Keshab Sharma followed by march past by AAGSU Volunteer Cell co-ordinated by its C-in-C Keshab Pandey. The ceremonial ‘khukhuri pooja’ –worship of traditional weapon called khukhuri, on occasion of the foundation day will be conducted by Nanda Kirati Dewan, information and publicity secretary AAGSU. The reception committee and members of AAGSU have arranged some hundreds of khukhuris (the traditional Gorkhali knife) for the traditional ‘khukhuri pooja’ The 37th bi-nnenial delegate session of Odalguri Dist. Committee AAGSU will begin from 1pm onwards under the chairmanship of Deepak Dahal president AAGSU,ODC that will take note of activities of the Odalguri Dist. Gorkha Students’ Union and elect the new executive committee for next two years terms. Education Secretary Kamal Subba and Asst. Gen Secy. Geeta Chetri have been appointed as observer for the delegates’ session.  Cultural night programs will be handled by cultural secy Deepak Chetri along with literature secretary Ram Upadhyay.
The second day program shall begin with a cultural procession showcasing cutlture of all constituent tribes of the Gorkha community. As many as five hundred bike rally will reach Rowta to receive and escort the guests and other dignitaries to the conference ground. Meanwhile literature program will be held in the mean time at the meeting venue. The open session the main attraction of the convention will begin in the afternoon that will be inaugurated by Jagadish Khanal,president AAGSU where in Bimal Gurung; Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha supremo will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, while its general secretary Roshan Giri, MLA of Darjeeling Hills Trilok Dewa, MLA of Kalimpong Dr. H B Chetri will attend as Special Guest of Honour while advisor of AAGSU Dil Bahadur Limboo and Gorkha Autonomous Council (GACDC) chairman Jr. Harkha Bahadur Chetri will attend as Guest of Honour. Gorkha Development Council (GDC) chief Lok Nath Upadhyay, Secondary Education Board of Assam(SEBA) Secretary Dr. Lok Nath Sharma, GJMM NE Co-ordination committee chairman Lok Nath Subba will attend as respected guests while hosts of community leaders have confirmed to attend as invited guests. Keshab Sharma gen secy AAGSU will deliver the key note address in the open session.
Promising young Indian boxer of Assam Shiva Thapa will be accorded a special felicitation for his recent achievements along with some educational career achievers. The AAGSU will soon decide in an extended executive meeting to confer international Gorkha boxer Shiva Thapa with Assam Gorkha Samman at its annual conference.
Informing about the program to this correspondent Nanda Kirati Dewan, Information and Publicity Secy AAGSU  said, ‘I appeal all sections of the society to participate at the two day convention at Odalguri that will observe the union’s 36th raising day and be a part of mission and vision AAGSU’,  and wished the people of the state and the North East a merry Christmas. He expressed that Lord Jesus will bless the region with peace , prosperity and normalcy in days to come with prayers of people of the northeast bringing an end to year long troubles.
