 Snowfall in Tiger Hill
DARJEELING 9 JAN: The upper ridges of the Tiger Hill today
received the second spell of snowfall this year with a few trickles at
about 3 p.m. In Tiger Hill, about 10 km from Darjeeling, the temperature
dipped to 0 degrees Celsius and it is likely to receive heavy
snowfall tonight and tomorrow. It can be mentioned that Sandakpu,
Falut and Manebhanjang, about 72 km from Darjeeling, have already received
the first snowfall of the season on 1 December.
For the past few days the temperature in Darjeeling remained at 3-4 degrees Celsius during the day and 1-2 degrees Celsius at night, indicating snowfall in
the coming days.
Mr Mrinal Rana, a team leader for tourists, said: “Just a few days before a snowfall the weather is neither too cold nor warm, just like today. It is likely that within 2-3 days snowfall will take place in Darjeeling as well.”
Today it rained in Darjeeling when it snowed in Tiger Hill.
Mr Suraj Sharma, a hotel owner, said: “The flow of tourists in Darjeeling these days is less but if snowfall takes place in Darjeeling the tourists will come back.”
