Algarah|Mukesh Sharma: Following the series of election campaign meetings the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), today conducted a public meeting at Algarah. The GJM who has won the 28 seats uncontested no remains confident that they shall win the remaining 17 seats too. The uncontested wins and the public support at large definitely prove that GJM is the most loved political party of the hills. The GJM President, Bimal Gurung addressing the gathering at Algarah claimed that the GJM shall stand victorious in the forthcoming elections. Crediting the public of the GJM’s success, he said that the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) which has been achieved after 44 months of agitation is not only because of the GJM hard work, but it is a result of the people’s dedicated support and motivation. “GTA was not Bimal Gurung’s want; instead it was the need of the public. Hence, the GTA is, and for the people,” he stated. “GTA is not Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC). From the pavements to the Parliament, the demand of GTA has been highlighted everywhere. And after much struggle by the public it has finally been achieved,” he underlined.Further, he informed that the oath ceremony will take place on August 04, 2012 and soon from the next day all the progressive works shall be initiated in the hills. Appealing the public to support them throughout, the Morcha Chief added that the GTA shall be functioned by the people. All the grievances of the public will be kept forward to the State Government and in turn the public needs to become a part of the development by contributing in their simple little ways. All the works of the GTA will be transparent and it shall be put forth to the public. If any of the Councilors are not doing their duties properly, then the public should come forward and voice against it, he added. The public should remain alert if any adversaries try to hamper the GTA. “The GTA shall function just like a State and the WB Government shall not administer it,” he assured.Likewise, he also directed the Councilors to work properly keeping in mind the development and benefit of the public. All the funds received from the Central Government, should not be misused, instead, it should be wisely used for the overall development. The funds are meant for the public and it should be invested on them, rather than filling the pockets of the leaders. The Councilors should be available for the public 24/7. No hitches in the funds shall be tolerated, he asserted. “I hope the public shall continue giving their support to the GJM in the long run,” added the Morcha chief hopefully.“Darjeeling and Kalimpong shall develop that too, immensely,” he claimed. Saying that the GTA shall be run efficiently, Gurung stressed that through proper functioning they shall prove the misleading oppositions what they are capable of. The oppositions should realize that the GJM goes by the saying, ‘action speaks louder than words.’ Pin pointing, few of the literates who had once commented Gurung for being illiterate, he countered, “after the developments which shall occur gradually, our so called literates will be forced to think what actually this illiterate Bimal Gurung can really do.” Also the leaders of the hills shall prove their efficiency to the leaders of the Centre who never believed that the Gorkhas can run an administration. “After the successful functioning of the GTA under GJM’s governance the Centre will be forced to say yes to Gorkhaland,” he concluded.
