Kalimpong Food & Supply office awaits maintenance since 20 years

The Food & Supply office built in the year 1993, at present stands depreciated. 20 years since its inauguration by the State’s then Food Minister, Narendra Nath, the structure has not undergone maintenance even once. The walls and the ceilings of the office lies wrecked and during rainy season, the ceiling leaks. Its condition is more depleted after last year’s earthquake.
The feeble structure poses threat to the officials and the people who visit the office. There are chances of unexpected incidents to occur in this 2 storey building which remains flocked by people most of the time. The dismantling of the Treasury Bhawan nearby is almost over, but till date the administration has not realized the condition of the Food & Supply office. Nothing has been done still after the condition of the office was brought under light of the State’s Food Minister, Jyoti Priya.
The office also falls short of efficient employees as 50% of out of 38 vacant posts lies unoccupied. The posts for Inspector and Sub Inspector too, lie vacant. Along with these other posts under LDC, UDC, Nazir, Typist, Night Guard, Sweeper Group D, etc. lie vacant. The Government instead of filling the posts with fresh employees is taking in ex servicemen. This has somewhat proved to be a mockery towards unemployment. With well maintained offices surrounding the Food & Supply office, it looks like a shabby hut amidst a posh area.
