3rd tender notice for Bypass construction issued, Sundas still dissatisfied

The Communist Party of Marxist (India) (CPM) seems to stand firm on their debate regarding the construction of 15.85kms long Bypass connecting 7th Mile and Cross Dara. The CPM leader, Tara Sundas since the past few weeks has been complaining about the tender value being unreasonably high for the local contractors and also had demanded that the local contractors should be getting the work. He had also forwarded letters to the GTA Executive Chief, Bimal Gurung, State’s Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee and the PWD, Jalpaiguri Engineer giving details of the work. The work worth 16 crores should be given at least to 80 contractors, Sundas had demanded in his letters.It may be noted that when a tender notice was issued by the PWD, Jalpaiguri regarding the same, early this month, Sundas mentioning about the tender value, had alleged that it is a conspiracy against the local contractors and to give works to the contractors from outside. As a result of Sundas’s accusations, the two tender notices issued on 14th August and 17 September, respectively had been rejected. Thus, a fresh notice was issued on 11th October.The CPM leader, informing about the same today, said that it is a great and an important feat. However, Sundas cautioned that inspite of this if the local contractors are not given the construction work, then he shall file a case against the PWD, Jalpaiguri, Superintendent Engineer. Still the CPM leader does not seem to be satisfied with the 3rd notice as he mentioned that the notice demands the technical details along with audit report for 5 years. Thus, Sundas saying that these things are impossible in the hills again alleged that this is another conspiracy for not letting the local contractors earn their living. He also expressed his discontentment on the tender (worth of Rs 15 crores 64 lakhs) add of being described only in 2 lines.
