Keeping in mind the growing demand of organic produce, the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan (KKKS) will be undertaking the Organic Certificate Scheme from this year onwards. Under this scheme the Government of India provides half of the funds to the farmers to take up organic farming. The KKKS has also requested the GOI for an export license to trade the organic produce. The KKKS say that the farmer’s produce when supplied in the market gets only 20% of the price and the rest 80% are taken by the traders. Therefore, the KKKS has directed the cardamom farmers of Todey, Tangda, Panangoti, Gitabling, Gitbiyog, Pankhasari, Maipatey, Takdha, Bijanbari, Sonada and Sukhia Pokhari to start up with the above mentioned scheme.
