The 4thInternational Veterans Football Tournament kicked off today at Mela Ground. The winner of the tournament is handed over with the Late Pem Dorjee Memorial Cup, while the runners-up team is felicitated with Late BB Pradhan Memorial Cup. The finals will be played on December 02, 2012.The 1stinaugural match witnessed the face-off between Darjeeling Veterans Club and Dzongri Sikkim Veterans Club, while the 2nd match was between the Namchi Veterans Club and Ghoom Jorebangalow Veterans Club.The 1stmatch had Darjeeling Veterans Club as the winner with 7-6. Both the teams stood with 1-1 till the final whistle. Thus, in the penalty kick the Darjeeling Veterans won with 6-5.The Sub Divisional Officer, LN Sherpa presided as the chief guest while the GTA Sabhasads, Kalyan Dewan, Samuel Gurung and Gopal Ruchal were the guests of honor. The Municipality Councilor along with the GJM Sub Division Committee and officials of the Police Department were also present.
Dagapur Morning club today defeated Kurseong Veterans club in a close encounter by 1-0 in the first match of the ongoing International Veterans football tournament being played at the Mela ground on Friday. In the second match of the day Malda Veterans club thrashed Dinhatta FSA by 5-2. 68-year-old player from the Dinhatta side also partook in the match.Dhurva Baraily was present as the chief guest accompanied by Henry Kumar as the guest of honor. The tournament has begun from Thursday, November 22.
