The President of Paragliding Association of India (PAI), Anil Kumar Sonkar along with 8 pilots today took a flight from the Paragliding Course at Delo, Kalimpong, today. it may be noted that since 2005 Paragliding is being done by the Himalyan Eagle in Kalimpong. in 2008 Roger Langry and his wife Susan Khati introduced Tandem Paragliding in the Sub Division.The PAI President in his address said that they were unaware that Paragliding takes place in Kalimpong. “We came to know through Roger and thus we have come here”, he added.Further, he mentioned that Kalimpong has space for pick-ups, flights and landings which are very much safe. All it needs is encouragement from the Government. Today the Sikkim Government is concentrating on this particular adventure sport. Similarly, there are many villages in Himachal Pradesh where people earn their living through Paragliding, he informed.Likewise, Pilot Chetan Garg said that the weather of Kalimpong is suitable this kind of tourism activity.After the take off from Delo, the landing is done at Homes Ground and Relli, informed Susan Khati. At present the tourist season is at full swing in Kalimpong and about 25-30 people have been coming for the flights. This sport needs support from the Government, she stressed.
