The women’s wing of the
Darjeeling-Dooars United Development Foundation(DDUDF) today formed its Mirik
branch committee to accelerate campaigning for independent candidate Dr.
Mahendra P Lama.
A meeting held under the chairmanship of
Mirik unit president Tilak Rai selected Binita Rai as the convener of
the newly formed women’s committee. DDUDF women’s central committee
convener Usha Kiran Rai said since Darjeeling is witnessing a ‘politics
of benefits’ instead of the resolution of its prime issues, an
increasing number of youths are migrating elsewhere. Pressing on the
significance of the upcoming elections, Rai said if the people do not
show keen interest, the Gorkhaland agenda will lose all its weight and
substance.
Mirik branch DDUDF convener Tilak Rai
claimed the organisation’s door-to-door campaigning is receiving warm
response. He said campaigning will pick up pace in the coming days. A
meeting will be held with the CPRM and the BGP on March 28 to form an
election committee, added Rai.(EOIC)
