State Minister for Fire and Emergency
Services Janab Javed Ahmed Khan today inaugurated a home guard barrack
and office at Dali, 4 km away from Darjeeling. The home guard barrack
and office was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.35 lakhs.
The minister, who also looks after Home
Guard and Civil Defense Department, promised the government will also
set up fire stations at various places in the hills soon.
He said, "The fire station presently
located near Dali is far away from the town. For emergency requirement,
we will provide a fire brigade in the town area."
The state minister further said money
for setting up a fire station in Mirik has already been sanctioned and
that more such stations would come up in other places.
The state government, owing to
remoteness of some areas and the occurrence of frequent landslides, also
handed over four rescue vans to the civil defense department today.
"Due to the nature of the topography and remoteness, we have decided to
hand over four vans to each district. Currently we are handing over one
van each to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Siliguri, the remaining
will be delivered later,” he informed.(EOIC)
