BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Darjeeling,
SS Ahluwalia, today arrived in Mirik as part of his election campaign
where he tried to woo voters asserting his party is in favour of
formation of smaller states. Urging the people to cast their votes to
the lotus symbol, Ahluwalia pledged to do everything possible for the
formation of a separate state here. Citing the formation of Uttarakhand,
Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh during the NDA rule, he said if the people
of Darjeeling promote him to Parliament, he can strive for achieving
statehood for them.
Slamming TMC president Mamata Banerjee,
Ahluwalia said, “When the BJP government was at the Centre, Mamata
Banerjee was the railway minister. Why didn’t she stand up against the
formation of new states when three were being formed right before her
eyes?”
The BJP candidate, who is enjoying the
GJM’s support, said the entire country is under the Modi wave and urged
the people to give the maximum mandate to the BJP so that a “new nation”
can be established. He also said Narendra Modi will visit Siliguri on
April 12.(EOIC)
