Fire brigade (Station) in Sukhiyapokhari to construct : The long standing demand of the people of Sukkaypokhari for a fire brigade is finally going to be fulfilled. Informing about the development, the GTA Sukkaypokhari-Manaybhanjyang Sabhasad Uday Dewan said the hill administration is developing four fire brigades in hills. “The construction of fire brigade in Sukkaypokhari will be done in the first phase of the project, while in the second phase Sonada will get the new infrastructure,” Dewan added.

Informing the construction will be completed within a year, Dewan said GTA’s communication and cultural department Sabhasad Binay Tamang had been lobbying for the project to be sanctioned since a long time. He informed the Summaypokari Fire Brigade Establishment Committee and Summaypokari Yuwak Sang president Phurbi Tshering Sherpa had recently met Fire Department Minister Javed Khan in Kolkata and informed about the problems faced by the people and the need for the fire brigade in the region.

The demand for a fire brigade in the region had started back in 1980s and with the continuously increasing population, a fire brigade had become increasingly necessary. More than 50,000 people from various villages under the Sukkaypokhari-Jorebangla region have been demanding for a fire brigade since a long time. Notably, for any fire related issues in the region, fire brigade from Darjeeling, Kurseong or Siliguri have to be called in, making it more time consuming and inconvenient. The people are happy about the new development and have expressed their satisfaction on GTA’s initiative.(EOIC)
