Sikkim receives five National Awards In Rural Development
State of Sikkim bagged five national awards for rural development in a glittering function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today. A twenty seven member team led by Hon’ble Minister RMDD, Government of Sikkim Shri S.B.Subedi attended the function organized on the occasion of National Panchayat Day 2015.

The award to the State of Sikkim for devolution of powers and resources to PRI was conferred by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Hon’ble Minister for Rural Management and Development Department Shri S.B.Subedi along with the Secretary, RMDD Shri D.R.Nepal received the award on behalf of the State Government.

The other four awards were conferred by the Union Minister for Rural Development, Pachayati Raj, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh.



The awards have been conferred for accountability, efficient & transparent functioning in the various categories which are as follows:

    Sikkim adjudged second in the Country after Kerela in terms of both devolution of powers and resources PRI at policy level and in terms of functionaries at the level of practice.

    
    West District Zilla Panchayat has been awarded best performing District Zilla Panchayat under Panchayat Sasaktikaran Aviyan. The award was jointly received by Zilla Panchayat Adyaksha, West District Zilla Panchayat Smt Devi Maya Subba and Upadhyakshya Shri L.P.Kafley.
    11- Namphing Gram Panchayat Unit, South District has been awarded best performing GPU under Panchayat Sasaktikaran Aviyan. The award was received by Gram Panchayat President Shri Ajay Pradhan.
    Sanghu Radhukhandu Gram Panchayat Unit West District has been awarded best performing GPU under Panchayat Sasaktikaran Aviyan. The award was received by Gram Panchayat President Ms.Nimakit Lepcha.

    Kolthang Tokday Gram Panchayat Unit, Yangang Block, South District has been awarded the National Award ‘Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar’ – (RGGS) for the year 2015 for their initiative to involve the village community in the Gram Sabha for taking up important issues related to the socio- economic development of the village. The award was received by Gram Panchayat President Shri Anil Kumar Nepal.
