Sashastra Seema Bal celebrates Women Empowerment Day

Sashastra  Seema Bal  today celebrated 8th March as Women Empowerment Day at its all field units. The Mahila Jawans  today started their  duties with cheers and full alertness at its field locations on frisking, Jungle Patrolling, Area Domination, Border Patrolling and BOP duties. It is an international phenomenon to acknowledge women on 8th March.

SSB, is the first border guarding Central Armed Police Force to recruit and deploy Mahila Jawans for Border guarding duties. The SSB’s Mahila platoons have been spread out on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan border for performing border guarding and counter insurgency duties.

  In Modern Indian Society women are playing stellar roller, even challenging their male counterparts in every field – be it politics, science and Technology, art and culture. Women are no longer viewed best suited for certain specific jobs. Today they are performing much better in Civil policing, Civil administration, Internal security, Armed forces and Para military forces Smt.  Kiran Bedi, Smt. Kanchan Chaudhay are few to name and Smt. Archana Ramasundram the first, IPS officer to be come Director General of   CAPF  namely Sashastra Seema Bal.

With a view to promote and highlight women empowerment SSB Fronteir Siliguri today observed women empowerment day at all its field units located in North Bengal, Assam and Sikkim states.  The various activities undertaken/performed by the uniformed mahila component today at its various locations include March Past, Zero-Patrolling, BOP duties, Jungle patrolling, border interaction,  Night patrolling, River patrolling Weapon practice, Anti human trafficking and searching duties in its AOR on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Border. In filed units under Frontier functions were organized to celebrate and to honour the mahila jawans for their contribution and ensuring border security on BOPs and entry points on the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan border.

It also seems like that year 2016 will be a good year for women empowerment in India In a more that will enhance the representation of  women  in CAPF Union Home Ministry approved 33% of posts at Constable level to be filled up by women with immediate effect. The move come after a pressure created by the committee on Empowerment of women  which suggested that representation of women in Para military forces be increased. The mahila components in police and Para military forces are proving to be a great helpful in carrying out security operation and border guarding duties.
