Two minor girls and a boy from Kalimpong were picked up in Siliguri this
morning by the Bhaktinagar police. Students of a school in Kalimpong,
they said they had left home to look for work in Siliguri. The three had
even rented a room for Rs1,500 per month in the Bhaktinagar Police
Station area. Area residents had informed the police about the three
kids who appeared to be on their own. Speaking to the press, Siliguri
police commissioner C.S. Lepcha said, “Parents must maintain strict
vigil over their children. They should remain alert even when the kids
are at home. These children could have been trafficked, but fortunately
they were taken into custody before anything of that sort could happen.”
