DARJEELING: Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF)
president Mann Ghising put in his papers as chairman of the Hill Area
Development Council (HADC) on Friday. Ghising chose the 83rd birth
anniversary of his father Subash Ghising to make his resignation
announcement from Kurseong, where the party has a presence.
HADC was formed on November 22, 2017 and Mann was made its chairman with three other members. Party general secretary Mahendra Chhetri was appointed vice-chairman and central committee leader Ajoy Edwards and TMC (Hills) working president Subhomoy Chatterjee, members.
Along with the resignation from HADC, the GNLF president also dissolved the party central committee and those of its mass organisations, leaving enough indications that the party is going to carve out political trajectory, different from what West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had conceived by taking into confidence some of the Hills outfits to marginalise fugitive GJM leader Bimal Gurung’s loyalists.
GNLF spokesperson Niraj Zimba said HADC was never the demand of the party as it was not the aspirations of the Hills people. “We did not ask for the HADC. It was given to us by the state government. Moreover, the HADC will not fulfil the aspirations of the people given the current situation. Our party president has resigned as the HADC chairman,” he said.
Singh’s stepping out of HADC has little chances of a reversal because the development comes even after the CM remembered GNLF leader Subash Ghising on his birth anniversary.
