On the occasion, GPPK President Santu Thapa recalled the sacrifice of those visionary Gorkhas who had fought to provide Nepali language in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
GPPK remembered the contributions of the former leaders especially the tireless effort of former MP of Sikkim Dilkumari Bhandari who pursued the matter in the Parliament to get the language recognised.
He also acknowledged late Shovarani Thapa, former President All Nagaland Gorkha Students Union who led the Nagaland delegation to Delhi under the aegis of the North East Gorkha Students Federation to press for recognition of Nepali language. In this, Thapa said it is now high time for the Gorkha students to take Nepali education in different level and avail the benefits of the constitutionally recognised language.
The occasion was marked by lighting of lamp in remembrance of the former leaders while welcome address was delivered by GSKSK cultural secretary Bharat Baraily. Significance of the day was shared by Assistant Treasurer GSKSK Pramila Thapa.
