Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today lauded West Bengal Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee's effort to restore peace in the hills and said the Centre would do its best for development of Darjeeling hills through the newly formed Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).
After meeting with Ms Banerjee in a hotel here tonight, Mr Shinde said all efforts would be made by the Centre and state government to maintain the changed situation in the hills, which the new government ushered with the help of local political leaders.
Mr Shinde arrived here to attend the swearing-in-ceremony of the first GTA to be held at 1115 hours at Chowrastra.
West Bengal governor M K Narayanan would administer the oath and secrecy on Gorkha janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung as the first GTA's chief executive.
Mr Shinde said he had come at least three times in Sikkim, and Darjeeling, but this was for the first time as a Union Home Minister. (UNI)
