Central forces move to three districts for 2nd phase Assembly polls

Siliguri, Apr 19 : After successfully policing polling in West Bengal's 54 Assembly seats on Monday, 548 companies of para-military forces deployed in six districts were being withdrawn today and moved to three other districts - Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia - where the second of the six-phase elections would be held on Saturday.
West Bengal has witnessed an unprecedented 84 per cent peaceful voting with no report of any repolling from any of the polling booths. Not a major violence was reported from any of the 54 Assembly seats spreading in six districts of Bengal's northern part sharing international border with Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan and two neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Assam.

Central Industrial security Force(CISF), Border Security Force (BSF), Sasasthra Surakha Bal (SSB), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Nagaland Police and Madhya Pradesh Police were among the 548 companies of para-military forces, which had been widely praised by rival political parties for maintaining law and order at the election booths.

Darjeeling
District magistrate Mohan Gandhi said the central forces were asked to move after all the EVMs were taken to strong rooms in different places. He said for these six districts, six strong rooms - Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong with one each and three in Siliguri where all the EVMs were kept, were under high security.
Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Bandana Yadav also echoed her Darjeeling counterpart about the arrangement of the central forces.
