GJM supports Mamata Govt, but Gorkhaland demand still there:Roshan Giri

Kolkata, May : The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) spearheading Gorkhaland said though it supported the Trinamool Congress- Congress Government, the demand for statehood would always be there.
'' We support the Government, headed by Ms Mamata Banerjee, who dislodged the 34-year-old CPI(M)-led Left Front government, '' GJM secretary Roshan Giri leading an eight-member team said after a meeting with the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat here.
To a question whether
the GJM would start the Gorkhaland demand, he said , '' The demand for Gorkhaland will always be there. '' He, however, evaded the question whether Ms Banerjee had assured the GJM of Gorkhaland, saying, '' Time will tell. '' Expressing hope that the Darjeeling problem would be resolved through discussion, Ms Banerjee directed Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh to fix a date for a meeting with the GJM leaders for talks on the problems in the hills.

The GJM leader, Bimal Gurung, will personally meet the Chief Minister on Monday.

Ms Banerjee said, '' They came here on a courtesy visit. They have congratulated the new governement. '' '' We have asked the Chief Secretary to fix a date with GJM leaders. GJM president Bimal Gurung rang me up and will meet me on Monday. I believe all the problems will be sorted out through discussion, '' she said.

The team comprises all the elected MLAs of the GJM.

Mr Giri said they had urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the political prisoners, who had been falsely implicated, be released and demanded that the ''Z'' category security provided to Subhas Ghisingh be withdrawn.

They had also demanded that all the casual and ad-hoc workers of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) be regularised and invited the Chief Minister to visit Darjeeling.
