Carcass of elephant found at Taipoo forest under Bagdogra forest range in Kurseong sub-division

Siliguri, Sep 14 : A decomposed carcass of an elephant was found at Taipoo forest under Bagdogra forest range in Kurseong sub-division today, wildlfie official said.
Acting Divisional Forest Officer G P Chhetri said the carcass of a male pachyderm, aged about 4 or 5 years, was found in the forest.

He said the elephant died more than a week ago.

A post-mortem would be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death, he added.

This was the second such carcass of elephant found under Kurseong forest range after an adult was found dead with wounds on its body at Chenga Bustee near Indo-Nepal border area.

The forest officials also rehabilitated an adult elephant early this week to the forest after treating its injured legs, Mr Chhetri said.
