Sikkim/Gangtok: September, 27: Pipon Mr. Tsong Namgyal Lachungpa assisted by four others members from Lachung conducted a Press Conference here at Gangtok today evening. “We have come here to address to many problems and with many hopes” said the Pipon. In the conference, he stated that there are no chances of connectivity of roads between Chungthang to Lachung at least for three months. The road has been damaged severely by many landslides. So in the mean time, the air dropping of the essential commodities has been improper and inadequate because of the communication gap. The Pipon provided lists of following important commodities:-tents, gumboots, emergency lights, batteries, rain coats, candle with matchbox, satellite phones, petrol, diesel, kerosene, generator, water tanks, poly pipe, water filter, ropes, spades, tarpaulin, dal, mustard oil, dry foods, biscuits, first aid kits, vegetables, stove, rice after two weeks and profile. He further informed that for whatever relief measures to be carried in Lachung may contact the Pipon in his mobile- 9434409241. He assumed that the main bridge between Lema and Bicchu has been washed away. Three people are still missing. The people of Lachung are meanwhile residing in Ghumpa and in camps. There has been no communication between the villages of Lachung namely, Bicchu, Singring, Tsomchi, Dongethung, Sarkhyothang and Sarsok. According to the Pipon till date only one chopper has come up with the essential commodities, and with two doctors. Yesterday night four houses in Bicchu and two houses in Phakka were washed away by a landslide. On 24th of this month MLA Mr. T.W. Bhutia along with the Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Mr. Hissey Lachungpa visited Lachung and granted ex-gratia Rs. 10 Lakhs to the people. Similarly, today Lachung Rimpoche visited Lachung and granted Rs. one lakh to the people of Lachung. The Pipon also requested the Central and the State governments to provide Helicopter services at least three times a week, so that the injured people and ill people can be benefitted. There has been a huge damage of property and believes that the governments will definitely support them. He further demanded for the detailed geological reports, so that in near future they can be aware of such dangers. The Government has been helping but, that has not been adequate. “We sometimes fear of the nearby enemy, if similar situation occurs and the Village remains cut off from the rest of the country for more than a week” added the Pipon .The network provider, BSNL has been another main concern in Lachung. He also left the message to the people of Lachung residing outside, not to worry about Lachung.
