West Bengal Police arrested 22 Bangladeshi trespassers from Siliguri Railway Junction

Siliguri, Sep 24: The West Bengal Police have arrested twentytwo Bangladeshi trespassers from Siliguri Railway Junction here, police said today.

The figure is the largest catch in recent times.

Additional Superintendent of Police Amit P Javalgi told reporters that the Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested while alighting from a passenger bus at the railway junction last night.

He said the trespassers with no proper documents and visas had crossed the international border from Hilli in South Dinajpur of West Bengal and reached here before moving elsewhere in search of job.

Mr Javalgi said the arrested foreign nationals were the victims of some international gangs engaged in human trafficking in the Gulf countries and neighbouring Nepal and Bhutan.

He said during interrogation they revealed that unknown touts had taken Taka one lakh each from them for providing jobs in Bhutan, Nepal, parts of India and the Gulf countries.

The arrest was one of the major breakthroughs in curbing the human trafficking in this region, which is used by as the main corridor of criminal activities.

Siliguri has three major international borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The ASP said all the arrested foreign nationals, aged between 20 to 40 and residents of different districts of Bangladesh, are being taken to a local court today for remand of jail custody.
