NCC,West Bengal & Sikkim team lifted the Subroto Cup Football trophy

NCC,West Bengal & Sikkim team have lifted the Subroto Cup Football trophy. Inascintillating final played at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here today,they defeated Mynkhen Christian Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya 2-1.Bothteams were levelled at one each till half time. Two goals for NCC were scoredby Bhaskar Seal and BiswanathSoren.

This year two NCC teams, i.e., West Bengal& Sikkim and North Eastern Region(comprising of all Seven N E States) participated in the tournament. NCC WestBengal and Sikkim Team had earlier defeated NCC team North East Region by twogoals to nil in the semifinal while the Meghalaya School team defeated Army Boys FootballTeam to enter finals.

Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshall KK Nohwargave away prizes to the winners and runners up teams. Star footballerBhaichungBhutia was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The NCCteam also won following prizes :

1. Best Player - BishwajeetHaldar. He was given a prize of Honda Scooty and a cashaward of Rs.20,000/-.

2. Best Goalkeeper - KalyanHembrom. He was given acash award of Rs.20,000/-.

3. Best Coach - Dr. BhupenBiswas from Kolkatta. He was given a cashaward of Rs.25,000/-.

In addition the winningteam got a cash award of Rs. 3 Lakhs. NCChad won this tournament in 2007 and it tookthem four years to win it again. Later in an impressiveceremony, the DGNCC Lt Gen P S Bhalla gave away Rs.10,000/- to each player ofthe NCC team West Bengal and Sikkim. Speaking on the occasion he said the boyshad done NCC, their schools and their parents a great honour and wished themsuccess in their careers.
